What's up everyone I have a new beat to share that I made for a YouTube contest. JFilt is having a beat contest and I decided I would dust off the MV8000 and put something together.
The idea was to take this Dilla sample, and make it into a beat. I took a loop and turned it into this:
I was pretty happy with how it came out considering Dilla type beats are one of my biggest weaknesses. I struggle with the smooth, basic, simple, melodic type of beats that Dilla pioneered.
It was cool that this contest got me a little out of my comfort zone as far as using the sample. I used the MV8000 for this beat. For one thing I like how it stretches samples. The machine and mpc studio are easier to get creative with because of how quickly and easy it is to load samples, but when I already have a sample I sometimes like using the big and slow MV8000. I like how the drums come out sounding and really the sound of the whole beat. The MV8000 seems to make the beats feel warm and full.
I hadn't made a beat or worked on anything for about a month, and then finally I got some inspiration, finished up Another Fall Harvest, and started playing with beats again. This contest was a cool way to practice my production skills and sharpen up for my next wave of bangers.
JFilt has some of the best beat making videos on youtube so if you are a producer looking to learn I highly suggest you check him out! I'm constantly digging and trying to improve and this man's videos have been very valuable with that!
